Botanical Garden of Native Plants Project in Zurite

Biodiversity conservation in the Zurite botanical garden

The project’s main objective is plant conservation and promoting public interest in biodiversity, highlighting a site located in the province of Anta, district of Zurite.

This site features remarkable agricultural architecture based on stepped platforms, currently used as an experimental station for the conservation and improvement of Andean species. In addition to being a scientific and educational space, it serves as a tourist attraction and a representative example of native flora. Thanks to its diverse climates and microclimates, Peru harbors enormous biological wealth, with thousands of plant species, many of them endemic.

Improved Rural Housing Project

Community-based rural tourism for sustainable development in the Peruvian Andes

The «Experiential Homes» project, launched in 2004 by the Tierras de los Andes agency in partnership with the Machu Picchu Trust and Andean communities, aims to improve the quality of life for rural populations through community-based tourism, without abandoning their traditional activities such as agriculture, livestock farming, fishing, and handicrafts.

By hosting tourists in homes located in the high Andes and around Lake Titicaca, the project promotes economic development, education, health, and social inclusion, aligning with sustainability goals.

Machu Picchu Project: One Million Trees

Reforestation and sustainable conservation in Machu Picchu

The One Million Trees Project in Machu Picchu is an initiative led by Tierra de los Andes in collaboration with environmental organizations and local communities. Its goal is to restore and protect the area’s biodiversity from the impact of tourism and human activities.

Through the mass planting of trees, the project aims to prevent soil erosion, regulate the climate, and contribute to the fight against climate change.

Furthermore, the project promotes environmental education and community participation through educational programs and local activities.

Community-Based Rural Tourism & Casa Habitante – Q’eswachaka

Rural community tourism and cultural preservation in Q'eswachaka

The Community-Based Rural Tourism project, through the «Casa Habitante» initiative, seeks to improve the quality of life in Andean communities by promoting sustainable development based on local participation, the preservation of traditions, and income generation through experiential tourism and handicrafts.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, it fosters poverty reduction, education, health, and decent work. Its activities include cultural experiences such as hikes, offerings to Pachamama (Mother Earth), workshops, and displays of traditional clothing.
